THE ELECTOR JOHN-GEORGE

John-George inherited the Electorate on the death of his father, Joachim 2nd, and the New Mark on the death of his uncle, the Margrave John. His government was peaceful, and it is only mentioned here to connect the chronological thread of this history. It is to be noted that one of his wives was a princess of Liegnitz, named Sophie. The branch of the margraves of Bayreuth and of Ansbach having died out, he divided this succession between his two younger sons: Christian, the elder of the two, from whom the new line of Bayreuth arose; and Ernest, that of Ansbach.

The Elector died in the year 1598.
